A Fantastic New Ladies Black Hills Gold Watch, from Landstroms!

Landstroms Black Hills Gold WatchLandstroms Black Hills Gold Watch – LWB9285-BLK-09250

The original manufacturer, and the leader in Black Hills Gold, Landstroms recently created this new ladies wrist-watch and watch-band combo just in time for the Holidays!

The watch itself is Landstrom’s classic Model 09250, which consists of a black round dial with eight 12 karat Black Hills Gold leaves and a stainless steel back. The watch mechanism is a quartz movement and is backed by a three year warranty. Of course, the Black Hills gold leaves themselves carry Landstroms Lifetime warranty.

What’s new is the watch band itself. Rather than cast the ends in solid 10 karat gold, Landstroms has instead made them from brass base metal making the ensemble a fraction of the cost of their solid gold models. The brass is then powder-coated with black enamel and articulated with a myriad of 12 karat Black Hills Gold leaves and details. Connecting the two ends is a standard twist-o-flex expansion band.

Wedding Bands and Traditions Across the World

Indonesian brideThere are a multitude of wedding traditions and ceremonies across the world. They differ not only by country but also by ethnic groups and religion. Two common aspects of all ceremonies across the board is the exchanging of a vow to loyalty, and a gift.

WEDDING CUSTOMS AND RITUALS

Many countries celebrate weddings the same way that’s done here in the US: a white dress for the bride, a black suit for the groom, and the exchange of a wedding band. This tradition is popular around the world throughout cultures much different from the western world. Yet, there are many other ceremonies and practices that have their roots in a nation’s or a tribe’s ancestry, beliefs and lifestyle.

In China a couple exchanges red handkerchiefs with pictures of mandarin ducks – in Chinese culture the ducks represent a long lasting relationship. In India, the ceremony involves the couple each holding the end of a cloth and then walking four times around a sacred book. Interestingly enough, the color white represents death in India, so the bride wears a red wedding gown. Continue reading

Mount Rushmore 2012 Independence Day Celebration

For those of you who were fortunate enough to see the July 4th fireworks at Mount Rushmore in the past, hold onto those memories because for the third consecutive year the National Park Service (NPS) has decided that fireworks will not be included in the celebration. Especially this year, with the wildfires that have devastated Colorado and other parts of the west, this may be inconvenient but is clearly essential.

“Mount Rushmore has successfully proven they can provide an outstanding July 3 celebration, in collaboration with Black Hills communities that can safely offer fireworks shows… Providing a celebration without fireworks for the 2012 Independence Day Celebration is the prudent course of action”, said NPS Regional Director Michael Reynolds.
